Well, quite the obvious ending I think. Campbell got more than I thought he would but still he did the best job.

In the next few days or weeks as some analyze this primary and watch John win the general I hope some focus on why Marilyn lost. She played herself as the anti-conservative, vote for me because I am a woman and pro-choice republican. Now, im not saying it is wrong to be either of those. All I am saying is you don't run as a Republican and win if you spend your whole time saying why the main stream republican is evil. She would have done better if she simply showed that she was more fiscally conservative than John and she would be exactly the same in Congress, just not part of the Old Boys Club. And Gilchrist...what a disaster of a candidate. And AIP? Not in the OC.

Well, John will be our next Congressman in Dec. We should now start to look at that Senate seat. Though many see current electeds as the next Senator, my vote is to bring someone new into the OC political arena.

Gilchrist almost caught up to Brewer. Almost.

Looks like this extended timeline can make things interesting.

Odds on the next Senator from the 35th?

Dennis Brown – Former Assemblymember
Alexandria Coronado – OCDE Trustee
Larry Crandall – Fountain Valley Councilmember
Chuck DeVore – Assemblymember
Gil Ferguson – former Assemblymember
Cathy Green – Huntington Beach Councilmember
Don Hansen – Huntington Beach Councilmember
Tom Harman – Assemblymember
Matthew Harper – HBUHSD Trustee
Jim Lacy – Dana Point Councilmember
Mike McGill – Cypress Councilmember
Ken Maddox – former Assemblymember
Alan Mansoor – Costa Mesa Councilmember
Kermit Marsh – Westminster Councilmember
Tom Mays – former Assemblymember
John Moorlach – OC Treasurer
Jim Silva – OC Supervisor
Dave Sullivan – Huntington Beach Councilmember
Van Tran – Assemblymember
Don Wagner – South OC CCD Trustee

If you exclude absentee ballots, the results were something like:

Campbell- 40%
Gilchrist- 20%
Brewer- 18%
Young- 8%

Campbell's campaign did a superb mail effort that resulted in an impressive absentee performance. He also had by far the most resources of the candidates in the race.
