Alexandria Coronado For Board of Supervisors?
I received a tip that OC Board of Eduction Trustee Alexandria Coronado is going to enter the special election for the 1st Supervisor District.
So I called Ms. Coronado, who confirmed that she is looking at running and will make a decision by the end of the week. She said she spoke with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher last night and he pledged his support should she enter the race.
Coronado pointed out there are "some really important issues" facing the Board of Supervisors and wants to make sure there are "no more PLAs" and wants to "take a hard look at pension plans."
Coronado was just re-elected to the OC Board of Education this year from District 2, which overlaps with the 1st SD in Westminster, Midway City and part of Garden Grove.
Quickly amassing a warchest is going to be critical for any candidate to prevail in this special. Coronado has built up a large donor mailing list since her 2004 congressional run against Loretta Sanchez. She told me she has 3,000 donors in California and 15,000 nationwide, and has raised approximately $480,000 this year (I don't know the cash-on-hand, which would be significantly lower due to the costs of direct mail fundraising. And I don't think any of the money can be "cleaned" into a county supervisor account, in any case).
A crazy idea for many reasons, among them that she lives with her parents, outside the district.

I hope she runs if for no other reason than to force the squishy RINO Carlos Bustamonte to take some stands on issues like PLA's. Expect a full court press by OC GOP to stop her but she is a strong lady and will not be told what to do. It's easy to move into the district if she does not now. She will run and she will be a strong force!

If she can get half her donors to give her $50 she is on her way. If Dana helps her fund raise too she's in great shape.

Yep! Let's drag more and more people into this one so the vote can split all over the place. That way, we're sure to get the least qualified person.

Run, Alexandria, Run!

How exactly does having more candidates mean the least qualified will be elected? Please explain Mr./Miss Split the vote.

There's actually academic research to support the idea that having MORE candidates leads to a non-optimum result.
It's known as Arrow's Impossibility Theorem, and (roughly) it states that if there are more than two candidates, there is no voting system that allows ranked preferences to be evident in the election outcome. In other words, a majority of voters would prefer at least two other candidates to the winner.
I butchered it, but for a more in-depth explanation, see Kenneth Arrow's "Social Choice and Individual Values" (1951).

JUBAL!!!
Did anyone call Rohrbacher to "confirm" Ms. Coronado's claim of "support"???
Secondly, with all the pluses & minuses of those who have already "announced", how much money do you think is left around town following the GOP's last 2 years record breaking $$$ spent in races???
I think all GOP supporters should start considering a strategy to overcome Tom Umberg...namely, in my humble opinion, a Vietnamese-American candidate with collective backing of the Party and the various clubs. And from a "self-funding" perspective, Bustamonte or Brett Franklin are better suited than Coronado to make a real race of it vs. the Dems...

The GOP kicked Alexandria to the side of the road after they used her to go after Sanchez. She ran a great race and the GOP machine has just spit on her ever since. For that and many other reasons she will enjoy seeing them beg her not to run and then laugh when she gets more votes than their official GOP tool.

She ran a great race. Tan Nguyen did better than her. Should we recruit him too.

Alexandria Coronado! This has to be a joke. Please tell me it is a joke. I mean it.

Coronado has constantly cited having $400K in the bank for years. Looking at her campaign account, all I see is about $40K in debt. Which is it? Where is the money? What am I missing here?

What's Coronado smoking these days? After her reckless comments about the Local Elected fees to the LA Times, why would the Republican Party want to support her?
But anyway, the more people running, the more money the Post Office will be making!
RUN CORONADO RUN!

I want to see a draft Margie Rice campaign. She can pick up the seniors (read the only ones who vote in a special).

The neg posters are after Alex which tells me she's in the thick of things. Just like when Umberg's name was first mentioned. Alex has the best chance of beating Umberg and the Dem.'s. You go girl!

Can't you see what's happening Alex? The same old GOP white guys still think they can run the world from Corona Del Mar! They don't think women, ESPECIALLY Latina women should run for political office unless they need human canon fodder. Tell them to head back to the Country Club for another drink while you win the BOS seat!
