This came over the transom a little while ago from the Janet Nguyen campaign:

Janet Nguyen Leads Campaign Finance Race

GARDEN GROVE, CA - - Supervisor candidate Janet Nguyen has over $211,000 cash on hand as the race for 1st District Supervisor gears up. Campaign reports made public today show that Janet’s total far surpasses the other contenders in the race.

“I am very grateful to my loyal supporters for helping me put the resources together to run an effective campaign,” said Janet.  “We have raised over $124,000 in new money and combined with the funds I already had on hand, we are almost two-thirds of the way to meeting our budget.”

Janet Nguyen is a Garden Grove City Councilmember. She was the top vote-getter in the 2004 election and the first woman elected to the council in 35 years.

Could someone explain to me the strategic angle of announcing in a press release how you are winning the campaign finance race? Wouldn’t beating a drum about the amount of COH you have only motivate your competition. I understand that it is public information but why highlight it?

I hate to admit it but Janet's support is very impressive, especially from the Vietnamese community.

The strategic angle of pointing out that you are beating the crap put of your competition in the money department is to demoralize them and show the donor community that you are the one to back.

I think they have political science classes at Orange Community College that teaches the basics of how this game is played.

Canidates brag about money when they have nothing else to say. Janet has lost most of her endorsements and her contributions have dried up. This report is way below expectations, so she is trying to spin it before anyone really notices.

Which means her budget is about $350,000.

Sorry, Janet. That is not near enough for you to win a race where you have to spend money in the vietnamese communtiy and your own city plus Santa Ana and Westminister.

$350,000 is more than enough in a race like this with very few voters. If she raises $350,000 she will be very competitive with Umberg and will blow away Carlos and Trung.

Carlos will be a harder opponent to beat that will Trung. She will be close on the heels of Umberg if she can take out Carlos very quickly. Doing that will put her in a positiion to take the wind out of Umbergs sails.

Moreno and Diaz will draw some Latino votes away from Carlos but not enough to make a huge difference.

Trung will be a footnote in regards to Janet. I dont see Trung geting support from the Vietnamese Community in this race esoecially since he had to loan himslef 100K. Janet has far more Vietnamese donors and cash from them. This community is pretty tight nit and word travels very fast ala whisper campaign style.

I see Janet taking at least 65% of the Vietnamese votes cast. She also has pretty divierse support in other populations like Caucasians and labor voters from the slate cards she was on in her last race.

Janet will need to do some work in Santa Ana to not only torpedo Carlos but also mitigate Umbergs name recognition in that city.

Umberg is toast in the Viet Community and might get hurt by his reference to Immigration in the Latino community. Caucasian Reps will be turned off from him causes hes a Dem.

I think Janet would do well with a silver bullet to Carlos and then work on Tom while pushing her positives at the same time in Santa Ana. Shes got rhe money to go against Umberg and she should use it because its gona be tough running against him.

Trung will not pose any sort of threat to Janet with Voters who can read the full name on the ballot. And those who do read all the materilas will be familiar with Trung enough to know that this guy is a joke and has no business trying to be on the BOS.

Now why would a democrat activist advise republican candidates to attack each other?
Duh!!!! In this race no republican has the luxury to attack another republican and suffer retaliation. So despite democrat goading they will all train their fire on target rich Umberg and one of them may emerge a winner.

Nobody ever heard of Trung, yet Janet has been active for years.
This is nothing more than Van Tran's revenge against Janet for not kissing his behind. Now I heard that Van was spreading falsehoods about Janet's family. He is really out of line and it will come back to haunt him.
