Solorio Gets Into The "Friendly Wager" Game
This wagering between elected officials on the outcome of professional sports contests seems to be gaining traction. Last week Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle and the mayor of whatever town the Ducks' opponents are from bet that the loser had to where the winning team's jersey.
Now Assemblyman Jose Solorio is getting into the act:
Assemblyman Solorio Places Friendly Wager On Stanley Cup Finals With Ottawa Provincial Parliament Member Jim Watson
The Two Legislators Each Pledge Local Delicacies To The VictorANAHEIM, CA – State Assemblyman Jose Solorio, who proudly represents the Honda Center, the Anaheim Ducks, Wild Wing, and the City of Anaheim in the California State Legislature, has placed a friendly wager on the upcoming Stanley Cup Finals series between the Anaheim Ducks and the Ottawa Senators with his counterpart in the Canadian Provincial Parliament Member, Jim Watson. Game 1 of the best of 7 series began last evening.
When Anaheim Ducks Captain Scott Niedermayer hoists the Stanley Cup high above his head and the team becomes the first California hockey club to ever win the NHL Championship, Assemblyman Solorio will collect something the Ottawa M.P.P. is calling Beaver Tails (he claims they are famous), a Canadian Toque, and some Ottawa mugs.
In the very unlikely scenario that the Ottawa Senators get lucky and squeak out a series win, Assemblyman Solorio will be sending Parliament Member Watson a crate of Oranges, a crate of Jalapeño peppers, and a set of Mickey Mouse ears.
“With all their trash talking this week, you would think these Canadians believe they invented the sport or something,” said Assemblyman Solorio. “Well, Ottawa Senators, please let me introduce you to Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Ducks in 6! I’ve been a vegetarian for ten years, but I am looking forward to feasting on the Beaver Tails.”
“…And besides, what city in their right mind would name their professional sports team after a group of politicians. How intimidating is that?”
So glad that Jose has time to gamble, but none to show up or send a rep to Santa Ana's EPIC gang meeting last night
He's on the Youth Violence Prevention Select Subcommitee which meets 06-01
Wonder if he'll go or just shoot dice in the office?
