Where's the Flag Day Love?

Word is, invitations for the O.C. Republican Party's annual Flag Day dinner are starting to hit mailboxes.  It's apparently a pretty standard mailer... a decent-looking envelope with the the usual details about date, time, etc.  Other than that, I just realized I haven't heard a single thing about this event yet-- nothing.

So why is this interesting?  Hey, maybe it's not.

I could have sworn, though, that last year's Flag Day dinner was accompanied by a TON of strong-arming for attendance, hand-delivered martini glass invitations to the county's largest donors and an enormous effort to drive turnout.

Last year's speaker?  Mitt Romney.

This year's speaker?  Rudy.

No special effort for America's Mayor?  Oooohhhhhh, I see... no special effort for Romney's competition.  Maybe that's not interesting.

Feels like it is, though.

My Friends,

This is a classic example of someone blogging while intoxicated.

Frustrated Republican.....Look on the 2006 martini glass and tell me who’s name is on it and get back to me after you wipe that egg on your face.

Romney – 2005 speaker

Schwarzenegger – 2006 speaker (Giuliani was our scheduled keynote, but had a scheduling conflict)

Giuliani – scheduled 2007 speaker

Please join us at the Irvine Hyatt on June 10th. I guarantee there will be as many people as the 2006 Flag Day.

I will take merited shots on the county party.......but please don’t take cheap shots at OCGOP if you don’t know what you are talking about.

Actually last year we had Ahhnold and Dennis Prager. I think Romney was two years ago.

Powder Blue Report

Weak, FR, really bleeping weak. But be sure to get back to us in '08 with another update!

FR- What is your point? The county party put more effort into the event when Romney was the speaker and they are letting the Giuliani event tank? Because the Chairman is supporting Romney? Give me a break!

Rudy sells himself...they needed to hustle to get people to buy tickets to hear Romney.

Last year was originally Rudy, then a month or so before hand he had to cancell and they brought in the Governor. Romney was in 2005.

Also those martini glasses were delivered to key donors, groups, elected officials, and other VIP types to entice them to buy a table. This year, instead of reinventing the wheel, they just told those people, if they wanted the same table that they needed to request them by a certain time (which I think most did). So, I think with minimal effort/cost, they sold most of the tables early on. I think by doing this they saved a lot on the overhead cost of the event which benefits the County Party even more. This is supposed to be fundraiser, so if they can save here and there, then why not!

Please get your facts straight before you go attacking people and their staff. And George, I think those who attended, gave up those martini glasses upon entrance (I think they were auctioned as a set or something).

George,

If you threw all the intoxicated people out of Congress there wouldn't be many folks left.

To set the record straight. Rudy Giuliani was the original announced keynote speaker at last years' OCGOP Flag Day event held at the Irvine Hyatt.
Do to some miscommunication he did not participate and, almost at the last minute, was replaced by Governor Schwarzenegger.
