Aussie COO of Calif. GOP Resigns
I see from posts on the FlashReport -- here and here -- that Michael Kamburowski, the Chief Operating Officer of the California Republican Party, has resigned.
Kamburowski's resignation was precipitated by this devastating San Francisco Chronicle article by ace political reporter Carla Marinucci. It's a must read, detailing how "Michael Kamburowski, the Australian immigrant hired as a top official in the California Republican Party, was ordered deported in 2001, jailed three years later for visa violations -- and has filed a $5 million wrongful arrest lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to U.S. District Court documents."
It's an eye-opening piece that leaves you wondering how in heaven's name he got himself hired to run the CRP? According to the article, Kamburowski's resume showed no employment between 2000 and 2006.
Not just no relevant political experience -- but no work experience.
Criminy.
I guess the party is just showing its support for the policies of its illegal-friendly president.

The latest revelations of his background only leads to greater insult. I have been critical of the appointment from day one. Not so much that he was not qualified but that there wasn’t a qualified Californian with history, loyalty, and one who could actually vote.
The report above answered my question or at least shed light on why a qualified Californian registered republican could have not been found. Apparently, the search was narrow and/or poorly done with little or no research or follow-up on those who submitted resumes.
It really leaves the question out there if the hiring was done in the best interest of the CRP or was it filled because of personal relationships. I hate to point out the obvious but there is a log of press out there how the leaders of the Republican party (such as Bush) appoint friends and cronnies rather than the best person. If you agree or not agree with that statement doesn’t really matter, it is what’s is out there. It is hard to say and even harder to understand how this could happen as we ramp up in a challenging Presidential election period.
The Dems are going to have a field day with this one. IT IS NOT WHAT WE NEEDED. I would have expected more from the CRP leadership.

If Ron Nhering can't come up with a good explanation for this, he should resign.
Palm Springs should be interesting.

A very standard background check that virtually all businesses conduct routinely on new employee hirings would have revealed this. The state GOP can't even do this? And we wonder why this party is going in the tank?
Maybe Ron Nehring isn't the right guy to sit in the position he occupies if he can't get a simple backround check conducted.
