Anaheim Council Continues Disney Referendum Decision For 3 Weeks

The Anaheim City Council voted 3-2 a little while ago to postpone a vote on the Disney referendum until August 21.  Councilmembers Bob Hernandez, Lorri Galloway and Lucille Kring voted for the continuance, Mayor Curt Pringle and Councilman Harry Sidhu voted against it.

Quick recap: The Anaheim City Council voted 3-2 (same breakdown as above) in April to approve a zoning overlay on an approximately 25-acre site at Haster and Katella, allowing wholly residential development. The site is at the edge of the Resort District and currently sports two mobile home parks. Disney objected and qualified a referendum, thereby requiring the Council to either repeal the zoning decision or put the zoning decision to a city-wide vote.

The parties in this dispute, SunCal and Disney, are currently in discussions seeking a compromise both sides can live with. The continuance will give them more time  to resolve the issue without sending everyone to battle stations.
