DA clears Deborah Pauley
After Deborah Pauley won election to the Villa Park City Council last November, her opponents leveled a politically motivated charge of campaigning within 100' of a polling location. They filed a complaint against her with the D.A. and then repeatedly used that she was "currently under investigation by the District Attorney for her illegal Election Day actions" as a reason she should be recalled.
On July 13, the DA closed its investigation, finding that "there is no reliable evidence [Pauley] was soliciting votes within 100' of any polling place." The DA's findings simply confirm what most people already know - the recall is nothing more than a misguided effort by a few malcontents to get a "do-over" of an election that did not turn out the way they wanted.
Mark--A wise decision by the DA. But your last sentence describing the recall as an effort to get a "do over of an election that did not turn out the way they wanted," sounds like an accurate description of the "do over" crowd that led the recall against Gray Davis.

I was fortunate to meet Deborah during her campaign for VP City Council; I can't think of someone who cares more about the community. I'm relieved that the DA has put an end to these baseless accusations.

Justice prevails. Deborah Pauley is a hard working member of Council and has endured hateful public remarks by a small group of manipulative losers. They are currently seeking signatures on a petition for her recall and are not receiving a warm welcome from citizens.

Most residents recognized immediately the source of the charges & recall effort. These malcontents need to bone up on representative government and good sportsmanship. VP voters elected Ms. Pauley for her courage to address issues that need to be aired, and the majority are pleased with the job she is doing. Why the bogus charges?? "Hell hath no fury like that of a woman scorned!"

Perhaps the US Attorney should look at prosecuting the Board of Supervisors for conspiracy to aid and abet in the distribution of marijuana in Orange County.

The youngest, the smartest, the prettiest and the boldest: it is a small wonder that Deborah Pauley has so many supporters as well as a what unfortunately amounts to be a small contingent of jealous and incompetent individuals. Not to upset Mr. Ulmer... but I must pose the question: Why is this woman not our mayor?

I have known Deborah Pauly for over two years. Deborah Pauly is a true conservative and one of the most honest and hard working people I know. Thank God truth prevailed!

Hurrah!! Knew Deborah would be cleared. There is no more of a hardworking and honest woman than Deb. She will always do her job and do it WELL. She is a true conservative and had very sound principles and ideals. I am pleased to say that she is my friend. Sooo go Deborah go!!!!!

Mark Bucher, your name is on the letter from the DA, so you obviously got a copy. I don't see anywhere that the DA has "cleared Pauly's name". Unfortunately, the bad guys in our society have more rights than the good guys. The DA doesn't say Pauly is innocent. The DA says "At this time, there is not sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Ms. Pauly is guilty of the alleged crime." We all know OJ killed his wife, but our judicious system couldn't prove "beyond a reasonable doubt " that he was guilty.
Pauly is a very hypocritical, religious zealot. On judgement day, there will on be God looking down on Pauly. I hope she can make peace with Him, because she had caused havoc in Villa Park.

Pauly has not been cleared of illegal electioneering by the DA or by the Grand Jury or by any VP citizen with a brain.

I did not say that the DA found Deborah innocent. That could only happen by a jury at a trial. Of course, despite the best efforts of your cabal, there will be no trial because the DA has found that there is "no reliable evidence" that she did anything wrong.

Mark, Have you even talked to any witnesses?? Obviously not. Well, I have and they have even measured distances. They are within 100 feet of the entrance of the polling sites. Looks like some of this is he said/ she said and the DA's office won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. This is where "beyond a reasonable doubt" comes into play. These witnesses did not even know Pauly prior to this election. There are too many people on this band wagon and they can't all "hate" Pauly or have "sour grapes" against Pauly. I am guessing the sour grapes is because Bortle didn't win. Bortle isn't even considering running again when this recall goes through. Bortle isn't even apart of this recall.
Furthermore, Pauly harassed one of the witnesses at a Women's League Event. She approached him and basically said, she was so close to winning last time she wanted to make sure she could get as many votes as possible. She went on to say that maybe she shouldn't have done "this" in such a small town. If she lived in Anaheim, she could have gotten away with "it". Sounds like she is talking about electioneering to me.

Some individuals are rather technologically savvy, though I must confess that how Mark would have acquired it is painfully simple. However, I would like to thank you for taking your time to represent the "Honest Government" side of the (non)issue. You have more than demonstrated the small-minded, undereducated, and irrational nature of the group attacking Councilwoman Pauly.
My honest opinion? The "Citizens for Honest Government" are no more than flies that Councilwoman Pauly must constantly swat away while attempting to actually facilitate an honest government.
Also, I am aware of a judicial system, but not a judicious system. Please, explain. Clearly you are Villa Park's greatest political mind.

Shame on you, recall committee, for taking part in the printing and distribution of these completely unsubstantiated, shameful distortions of the truth and outright lies.
The REAL TRUTH is that the DA has cleared Deborah Pauly of all of your trumped up charges. (Which, by the way, any citizen could have alleged against another and the DA would have been obliged to investigate.)
My hope is that now, every VP resident that is approached to secretly sign your
"confidential" petition, will first demand full disclosure of the honest facts. Then, your Sour Grapes Committee will be left alone with its bitterness.

You are 100% wrong. The DA has NOT cleared Pauly of the charges, but merely stated "that at this time" there is not sufficient evidence to "prove beyond a reasonable doubt" that Pauly is guilty. The investigation continues!
There is no "secret signings" or "confidential petition." I saw people sitting in front of Ralph's collecting signatures. Is that secret or confidential?
You mention "unsubstantiated, shameful distortions of the truth". The recall is about signed affidavits by several eye witnesses of illegal activity by Pauly.
You need to do better research.

Jan, you don't know me and I've never met you. I am glad to see that when it comes to important issues like electioneering and lying, you want to stoop to me being in my PJ's,w/o a bra, on spring break when I was dog sitting for my neighbor 3 houses down. I am glad that God made you so perfect. Whether you believe the facts or not, our recall committee has stuck with facts and not stooped so low as to make frivolous attacks about not wearing a bra with my pj's....you really got me with that one.
