My Interview with Governor Huckabee
Today I sat down with former Arkansas Governor and colorful presidential candidate Mike Huckabee for an interview about his underdog candidacy. He was very candid about his time as governor and talked at length about Petreaus, taxes, and then environment. His calm and ability to articulate issues could go a long way on the campaign trail. Look for him to rise. Click the video below to see what I mean.
This is one of the guys who doesn't believe in evolution, right?

I don't know, Dan.
But unless you unquestioningly believe in evolution, does that make you unqualified to be President?

"Do you believe in evolution" is an incredibly loaded question. There is a difference between micro and macro evolution. Of course the hundreds of millions of Americans who don't believe in macro evolution are merely buffoons right Dan?

"Of course the hundreds of millions of Americans who don't believe in macro evolution are merely buffoons right Dan?"
Are there really hundreds of millions of American who don't believe in "macro-evolution"? Over two hundred million? Frightening. I guess the education system really is failing. Let's hope they're not all living in Red states!

I thought Governor Huckabee was running for President, not to write curriculum for eight grade science books (yes, I took that from his answer to the evo question.) He answered that question in an honest, direct and courageous manner in one of the debates. The clip is on YouTube.
This man has eloquence and integrity. I don't agree with him on some issues, but the thought of having a nominee that we don't have to apologize for and can easily hold the moral high ground would be a stark contrast to any of the probable nominees from the other side.
The unfortunate reality is that this fine man will end up as the number two on a Romney or Guiliani ticket. Both will need his credentials with the religous right to carry the Republican base in a general election. That is my take on the situation.

I haven't watched this video, but from what I have seen of Mike Huckabee. He appears to be a sincere, genuine individual that does not across so much as a politico as the rest of the field. He also held his own pretty good on the Daily Show. Not many republicans have done that. Huckabee has my vote.

His views on evolution aren't nearly as scary as his belief that we have to stay in Iraq to save face. (See his back-and-forth with Ron Paul at the last GOP debate.)
The last thing I want in a President is someone who's afraid to make the tough decisions because it might affect his pride or sense of "honor." There is no honor in continuing to kill and die for a hopeless cause that was a bad idea from the start and remains so.

He also did a pretty good job on Bill Maher's show. While I have some policy disagreements with him I have a good deal of respect for his candor, his intellect and his willingness to reach out beyond the Red base. For example, he was the only Republican presidential candidate to go to I believe the Machinest Union's Convention recently and got a co-endorsement along with Clinton. Maybe 25-30% of the union members are Republican so it was smart and he was willing to go and make his case and respectfully agree to disagree on some major policy issues in front of a potentially hostile crowd.
There's something about these guys from Hope...........
