A Warm and Fuzzy Taliban?

Update: In a speech to UC Davis students, Ridley wasn't reluctant to display her hatred to our brave soldiers.

"Thank God I was captured by the most evil, brutal regime in the world and not the U.S. military," she said.

I guess the Taliban isn't so bad after all, well..... that's what Islamic activist and journalist Yvonne Ridley implies as she recounts her experiences as captive. As I wrote in my submission to New University, Ridley painted a rosy picture of the regime:

Or that any of the 9-11 hijackers were ever trained under their asylum. Ridley’s Taliban is in fact a glorious and merciful one: one of handsome and valiant soldiers, glowing ivory-clad clerics, and cure-all doctors as she expressed in her speech last Tuesday. Wow! I guess we Westerners are pretty naïve.

This reminds me of that scene in The In laws, when Alan Arkin warms up to the "lovable" Latin American Dictator who talks to his hand puppet just before Arkin and Peter Falk go before the firing squad. I digress.

I attained footage of Ridley's lecture at UC Irvine which you can watch below. Listen to the cackling audience during Ridley's speech -- mostly of MSU members -- who are humored about how ignorant and misunderstanding we Americans are about the former Afghan regime.  Also listen as she doesn't mention the Taliban's involvement in the asylum of the September 11th hijackers.

I feel sorry for todays college students who laugh and giggle with this woman who denounces the death penalty in this country for murderers, but her buds the Taliban would soon take her to a soccer field and behead her...oh and without taking her vital signs first. Where are the protesters to shout her down like they do any Minute Man or David Horowitz who enter their campus...oh I forgot, treasonous Marxist, fascist lefties, and radical America haters are the only ones worthy of respect on campuses now a days. I wonder why the Taliban let her go. I would have thought a fanatical Marxist would have been meat and wheat for the Taliban. Can anyone tell me why they let her go instead of mailing her back in a bodybag? This is the second time I have seen her speak. I find her a good speaker who combines humor and mild sarcasim in a story telling fashion to keep the audience engaged. Not bad at all.

Back to the Taliban. We shouldnt forget that the Taliban were the foot soldiers of our foreign policy in Pakistan / Afghanistan to combat the Soviets and later to check the Shiite Iran.

The CIA, Mossad and MI6 came up with the plan and provided political / logistical / military support, the Saudis provided the ideology, religous cover, training, and money , the Pakistanis along with Afghan Pashtoons provided the foot soldiers and hence the birth of the Taliban, not to mention Al Qaeda.

They are becoming more sophisticated as time goes by. Learning the hard way. But never the less learning from their past mistakes.

While they ruled Afghanistan they were barbaric, extremely reactionary, very sectarian and very much anti Iranian as we and the Israelis wanted. There is nothing
indicating that if they came to power again they be any better this time around.

So, lets keep things straight here. If any one of you feel you have to be self righteous, moral and a grand humanitarian I suggest we start by removing war criminals from high office in this land before we start pointing fingers at others.

Our criminal interference in the internal affairs of other countries has to stop and we should make an example of war criminals like king george and little dick before we even dare mentioning democracy and human rights and other lofty slogans.
