McGill Motion Fails
Chairman Scott Baugh kicked off the night at the OC GOP Central Committee meeting with staunch support of Sheriff Mike Carona. Baugh was in fact adamant about the often flimsiness of criminal charges, citing his own and others' experiences with baseless charges brought by over-zealous prosecutors. Baugh also took aim at the government's case, citing witnesses Don Haidl and George Jaramillo as "two convicted felons who were told to tell the grand jury what the prosecutors wanted them to say."
Simply put, Baugh told Committee Members that charges should be corroborated before "we make any irreversible conclusions."
At the same time, Baugh called for necessary steps, short of resignation, to hold Carona accountable for his questionable conduct as a public servant and called on Resolutions Committee members to evaluate Mike McGill's initial resolution for resignation, also urging the Full Committee to passing an extended leave of absence until Carona's legal matters are settled.
Scott Baugh on the Carona Indictment McGill's Motion
Mike McGill's second motion to suspend bylaws that would bypass the Resolutions Committee for a debate on extended leave failed, and the matter will be taken in its regular course to be reported to the Full Committee in January.
One thing I have been wondering ever since this "Resolution" issue was brought up to be decided on at the County GOP;
Why is the County Sherrif beholden to the local Central Commitee of the GOP?
I mean seriously? Why does the Sherrif have to listen to the Central Commitee members of any Party at all? He was elected by the electorate of the WHOLE County. That includes Democrats, Greens, Libertarians, American Independants, Natural Law, and yes Republicans as well.
So why is it that the GOP gets to decided the Sherrifs actions on this matter?

What might have been interesting and revealing would have been a vote or at least a discussion on whether the Sheriff should resign. Parliamentary gymnastics stalled any meaningful action. As it turns out, the Republican Central Committee would have to increase it's heft dramatically to achieve "window dressing" status.

uber consultant? he's done Carona so much good ... it might be a better place when the Schroeder era passes, too.

As Thanskgiving Approaches: Pilgrims Trials & Sheriff Carona’s Firestorm
The little band of Pilgrims who settled near but probably never landed on the Plymouth Rock, suffered oppression from the Church of England, the political hierarchy of the day. If the way was preordained for these Pilgrims, the way was made anything but smooth for them. Life was very hard for the group because they had few skills beyond the ones they learned on the farm. The Mayflower got them to the American coast in time for the onset of winter during which they lost about half their number. Every step of their Exodus was paved with hardship and disaster. The Pilgrims came to escape oppression and practice their religion in peace.
Now, almost 400 years later, Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, and his family is suffering from an eerily similar oppression from the “political hierarchy” of America and its local henchmen in Orange County. Sheriff Carona, in all his attempts over the past nine years to make Orange County a safe and comfortable place to live, work and raise your family, has been Exiled.
During this Thanksgiving week, let us rally to the aid of Our Sheriff and become Sheriff Carona’s Mayflower.
I end with this thought:
Let us renew our Pilgrim faith. May we take courage that within us is a light, if we seek it, which can wisely guide us through this Firestorm. When we gather for Thanksgiving, you will have an opportunity to set the course of events. Today, you can participate in that process by supporting our Sheriff, Michael Carona.
Headlights On!
Headlights On!

rwg, I acknowledge it: you are the undisputed king of satire! I can only hope those amateurs over at The Weekly are reading.

As Thanksgiving Approaches: We in O.C. have much to be thankful for. We have been taught a valuable lesson. The lesson is to become more informed about the people we choose to vote for. This Sheriff, while not working, will make tens of thousands of dollars. He has cost the county much more in attorney’s fees in the past. We need to clean house, and make our new leaders make us proud.

I don't understand your reasoning at all. I see your same propaganda posts copied and pasted on many blogs. Is this the best you can do? I am not sure how you are connected with this Sheriff, but your postings seem more and more desperate for support. If this is, as you call it, is a firestorm, then the people of O.C. are the firefighters and will not quit until all the embers are extinguished.

To Annonymous,
If providing my commentary and support for Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, on two of Orange County's primary avenues that provide voice to the common man, then YES I am guilty of the "many" you state.
To O.C. American Indian,
HOW dare you!

Looking Forward,
The fact that you are able to make light of the serious issues Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, must endure during this Firestorm is most disappointing. As Thanksgiving closely approaches, you should be looking for ways to be helpful toward your fellow man and provide a good example for those who look up to you.
Our rallying cry has been, and will always be, Headlights On!
Please take my comments as Constructive Criticism and nothing more.

RWG,
"The fact that you are able to make light of the serious issues Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, must endure during this Firestorm is most disappointing."
I believe the Sherriff has created his own issues. His life and professional choices have disappointed many people in this county.
You may condone cheating on your spouse with someone in a county vehicle with your wife and son near by. I do not. The recording of that incident makes me sick.
The fact is Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, has chosen not to take the high road on many occasions. Sheriff Carona's choices have adversely affected many lives, and have made him a liability to our county.
"As Thanksgiving closely approaches, you should be looking for ways to be helpful toward your fellow man and provide a good example for those who look up to you."
No matter what time of year, I am helpful to my fellow man. I do not do it to provide a good example to others. I do not do it because of a holiday season. I do it because it is the right thing to do. What kind of example has Our Sheriff been?
"Our rallying cry has been, and will always be, Headlights On!"
I believe your rally cry is a waste of energy.
"Please take my comments as Constructive Criticism and nothing more."
Your Constructive Criticism is noted.

Looking Forward,
Powerful statements, very powerful but yet false statements concerning Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, and this Firestorm.
I believe you are sincere, and I applaud you on your year-round efforts to be helpful to your fellow man - that is why your previous comments concerning Sheriff Carona seemed so out of character for you.
We all have our moments of spontaneous outrage, and learning to control those moments is sometimes the most difficult task we all face.
Please continue with your efforts of Goodwill.
For the rest of us, Headlights On.

RWG,
“Powerful statements, very powerful but yet false statements concerning Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, and this Firestorm. “
Was there not a recording of Sheriff Carona engaging in inappropriate behavior with a woman in a county vehicle with his wife and son nearby? Please confirm no part of this is true. Please let me know of any statements I made that are false. I do not wish to make any false statements.
“I believe you are sincere, and I applaud you on your year-round efforts to be helpful to your fellow man - that is why your previous comments concerning Sheriff Carona seemed so out of character for you.”
With all due respect, you know nothing about my character.
“We all have our moments of spontaneous outrage, and learning to control those moments is sometimes the most difficult task we all face.”
My strong opinion of Sheriff Carona’s morals, and the resulting consequences I feel justified he is paying, is not a “spontaneous outrage”. My opinion is a result of many credible sources, and much thought over a period of time.
I do agree with you controlling spontaneous behavior is important. This would have been good advice for Sheriff Carona to heed.

"Baugh was in fact adamant about the often flimsiness of criminal charges, citing his own and others' experiences with baseless charges brought by over-zealous prosecutors."
What other position would Baugh have other than the support of the criminal activity of Sheriff Corona. Not exactly a law and order committment. The indicted birds of a felony flock together.
The indited birds of a feather, flock together.

PSST. I heard Baugh drives with his headlights on. Keep it under your hat.

Looking Forward,
Yes, sir or madam, I can make the sweeping statement "that what you write about Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, is FALSE." You regularly use terms in your writings like "he has created his own ISSUES", "disappointed MANY people", "chosen not to take the high road on MANY occasions" and "adversely affected MANY lives." These, sir or madam, are your sweeping statements based on NO FACT!
Then, sir or madam, you demand I reply to an audio tape you heard.....please. Maybe you can name that tune in three notes, but I cannot!
It should also be noted that during our whole exchange, I have not raised my voice one time - the exclamation points are solely for effect. Can you say the same? I didn't think so.
You are an obvious detractor of Sheriff Carona, and there is nothing anyone can say or do to change that.
We will continue our vocal support of Sheriff Carona while maintaining the required level of decorum.
Headlights On!
Headlights On!
Headlights On!
.....again, exclamation points solely for dramatic effect.

1. Everyone creates there own issues. You reap what you sow.
2. One example of our Sheriff disappointing many people, and not taking the high road, is the fact he has not been faithful to his wife. This is something MANY people, including myself, will not condone. MANY people I know are disappointed they voted for a person who claimed to be a good Christian family man. What kind of good Christian man gets indicted with both his wife and mistress? His choice to be unfaithful has adversely affected his family’s lives and the lives of the family’s of his mistress.
“Then, sir or madam, you demand I reply to an audio tape you heard.....please. Maybe you can name that tune in three notes, but I cannot!”
Sir, I have made no demands of you. I simply asked you about the incident. Did this strike a nerve? If you hear the audio tape, it is obvious what kind of music they are making. I am sure even you could name that tune in one note.
“It should also be noted that during our whole exchange, I have not raised my voice one time - the exclamation points are solely for effect. Can you say the same? I
didn't think so.”
I am not sure what you mean by this. I have never meant to “Raise my voice at you”. I am enjoying are exchange. I totally disagree with you, but I respect you.
“You are an obvious detractor of Sheriff Carona, and there is nothing anyone can say or do to change that.”
If you mean do I hate Sheriff Carona. I do not. I teach my children to love our country. I teach them to be truthful, obey our laws, and to respect our elected leaders. I also teach them to hold our leaders to a high standard, and to challenge them if they feel they have done something wrong. I feel Sheriff Carona has done something wrong.
“We will continue our vocal support of Sheriff Carona while maintaining the required level of decorum. “
Ouch, I guess this is where you start the personal attacks.

Looking Forward,
I appreciate your passion and the steadfast manner you make your points. The answer is NO to any start to personal attacks.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.
