Would A Supervisor Joe Dunn Finish Out A Term?
It's a fair question. I don't think there's anyone -- even among those hoping Dunn runs for Supervisor -- who really believe Dunn is running for Supervisor for any other reason that to use it as a stepping stone for higher office, presumably the 47th Congressional District if Loretta Sanchez runs for Governor in two years.
I know that once these guys have been in higher elected office, many of them get an itch that's hard to permanently scratch. They miss being in office and part of the action. Someone needs to invent some kind of Norplant shot for termed-out legislators that suppresses any desire to run for office for at least five years.
In any case, my hunch is that's a factor in Joe Dunn's current should-I-or-shouldn't-I cogitations.
I'd be interested if any readers are willing, for the record under their real name, to say they believe that if Joe Dunn runs, it's because he really wants to be an Orange County Supervisor for the sake of the job itself, and not as a temporary stepping stone.
Humm...does Todd Spitzer, Lou Correa, Van Tran ring any bells? They use the offices they get as stepping stones to higher offices, why should Dunn be any different?

Matt -- wouldn't this same standard by aplied to Republican office holders as well? Janet Nguyen was an office jumper too, wasn't she?

They're all office jumpers. But moving down in order to move up suggests serious office-holding addiction.

Well, from DanC and an anon, we have the old "Well, what about so-and-so? They did it!" response, but thus far not a single, solitary person willing to state their name and say, "Yes, if Dunn runs its because he wants to be a Supervisor, and not simply as a platform for higher office."
That says a lot.
